Brittle hair: How to limit breakages?
Why does hair become prone to breakage?
Before you can repair damaged hair, it’s important to understand what causes breakage in the first place. Hair that breaks easily is often a sign that the cuticle—the hair’s outer protective layer—is no longer functioning properly. When the cuticle becomes damaged, the hair shaft struggles to retain moisture, feels rougher to the touch, and becomes more prone to breakage.
Frequent coloring, excessive heat styling, friction, rough detangling, and unsuitable hair care products can all contribute to this damage. The key is to minimize harsh practices and incorporate more gentleness into every step of your routine.
Say goodbye to dry, brittle hair with the boar bristle brush
This is THE natural treatment for restoring supple, hydrated hair. How? Thanks to their fibrous structure, boar bristles are able to draw sebum from the root and distribute it along the entire length of the hair shaft. This natural protective coating helps soften the hair fiber and leaves hair looking smoother and healthier—without the need for additional styling products. The result: hair is nourished and naturally protected from external factors that can make it even more fragile. As you brush your hair, it becomes softer, stronger, and more resilient.
At Altesse Studio, we select only first-cut boar bristles for their exceptional quality and natural affinity with the hair shaft. While brushing is not a substitute for reparative hair treatments, it helps promote healthier-looking hair every day by smoothing the strands and reducing the friction that can lead to breakage.
But which boar bristle brush should you choose to enjoy all these benefits? We recommend a high-quality model made with premium bristles, such as the Altesse Studio . Designed for fine to normal, thick, or curly hair, this top-of-the-line hair accessory (made in France) will provide your brittle hair with unparalleled care and styling performance. Supporting evidence: 85% of users observed a significant reduction in breakage after 4 weeks. (Efficacy study, RS Développement, February 2022)

Prevent brittle hair by detangling it properly
The best way to gently detangle your hair and prevent breakage: start at the ends and gently work your way up toward the roots. This helps avoid putting extra pressure on any knots. When it comes to accessories, swap your comb for an Altesse Studio brush made from bio-based nylon fibers. Its secret? Ultra-precise detangling without pain or breakage, gently separating each strand. The result is better distribution of hair care products, as well as a significant reduction in drying time.
If your hair is very tangled, gently work out the knots with your fingers or apply a suitable detangling treatment before brushing. The goal isn’t to get it done quickly—it’s to protect your hair from damage.

Altesse Studio tip for preventing breakage Detangling is always done on dry hair or, for curly hair, after shampooing and towel-drying. |
Choosing the right hair care routine for brittle hair
Chemical hair products are often too harsh for the hair shaft. As it weakens, it can no longer perform its protective function, and the hair becomes drier and duller. Split ends may appear, and the hair shaft can break. The solution? Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo, preferably made from natural ingredients, to avoid drying out the hair shaft even further.
But that’s not all. To help your hair regain its elasticity and shine, moisturize the lengths and ends regularly with a hydrating mask or oil treatment, avoiding the scalp. Choose a rich, thick oil like avocado oil, which is perfect for intensely nourishing dry, brittle, and damaged hair.
Limit the use of heated styling tools that dry out and damage hair
Bad news for those who straighten their hair every day: straighteners are the number one hair mistake because they damage the hair. And for good reason: repeated use weakens the hair shaft, causing it to dry out and break. If you can’t do without them, then use them no more than twice a week, at temperatures between 120°C and 190°C. Be sure to use a heat-protective treatment. And try to go over each section only once.
And when using a hair dryer, be sure to keep it at least 20 cm away from your head. This will protect your scalp and hair from the heat. If possible, set it to the lowest temperature setting for optimal hair protection.
Reducing breakage requires consistency: detangle gently, nourish your hair without weighing it down, limit heat styling, and choose a brush suited to your hair type. With its collection of boar bristle care brushes, Altesse Studio care for weakened, breakage-prone hair through a gentler daily routine—revealing hair that feels softer, looks shinier, and is better protected over time.
